richmond child portrait | lucy
Lucy is an observer. She watched everything, the bubbles that floated by, the blade of grass her mother handed her, the people walking by. The only thing she didn't watch was my camera, which made it very easy to capture the little moments that children are amazed by.

charlottesville portrait | amy
Amy and I met on a beautiful (and windy) spring evening, she had her pups, Zephyr and Beatrice, in tow along with her husband, Charlie, who acted as the official dog wrangler and purse holder.
Amy has recently lost weight and wanted to treat herself to new pictures to show off all of her hard work!! Amy looked so pretty and was all smiles. We had a wonderful time talking, playing with the pups and walking the trails along Kemper Park (I had never been there, it's really nice, I highly recommend it!).

richmond portrait | lindsey
It was one of those Richmond days where it turns to Summer overnight. But the light was gorgeous! Lindsey and I had a wonderful time shooting this session. Let me tell you a little something about Lindsey...she loves to pose! Some of my favorite shots are from when I gave her a little direction and then she tweaked it turned into something amazing! You're awesome!

excited!!
Big things are going on over here in Lauren Modny Photographyland. For years I've been contemplating how to and wanting to go into wedding/portrait photography, but just didn't know how to (and honestly a little, well, a lot scared) to turn it into reality. I finally decided that I had to bite the bullet and make it happen. So since my portfolio was lacking in the portrait department, I called on friends to help me round it out. And they have really come through for me, I had the shoot with Brandy & Mike which you can see below. And I have 4 more on the calendar for May and June. Plus, a wonderfully unexpected surprise...I'm helping a friend of friend by being a second (assistant) shooter for a wedding in May. I'm totally and completely excited!! Once I get all these shoots done, I think I'll have enough to launch my website and start getting more business. Keep this in mind and tell your friends!! And thank you in advance to all of my wonderful friends who are helping my dream become a reality, I really can't express my appreciation enough!

washington dc engagement | brandy & mike
Brandy and Mike have such a playful and loving relationship. It's fun to be in their company and makes photographing them so easy. It was a joy to watch them interact with each other and crack each other up, a lot of times I was too and had to hold it together to get the photos.
Brandy happens to be my college roommate and I've always loved her playful sense of humor, when I met Mike and saw that he shared that, I knew Brandy had met the man who is perfect for her. I wish you both a life of love and laughter together.
I'm so excited to be a part of your wedding in October!!

happy easter!
I spent a wonderful Easter weekend with my family. We did a lot of cooking and spending time together. And thinking about it, we didn't do anything really "Easter-y", no decorating eggs or egg hunts. But thanks to my brother there was chocolate!! I also used the weekend to test out a couple of new lenses I bought, which I've fallen in love with!! A little slideshow of the weekend below.
